The Knowledge Paradox

The reason why knowing more is actually knowing less.

Introduction

It is normal to believe that education is the path you have to follow that leads to a destination where we finally "know it all". It is assumed that the more one studies, the smaller the mysteries of the universe become. However, the truth about learning is quite different. By acquiring knowledge we don't eliminate the unknown, we reveal how much we have yet to learn.

Explanation

To understand this well you have to imagine that knowledge is an island in the middle of a huge ocean of ignorance. As you learn, the island gets bigger but so does its shoreline. This is the Knowledge Paradox: the more you learn, the more contact you have with the unknown. Therefore, ignorance often feels like certainty while expertise feels like exploration.

Conclusion

In conclusion, admitting that we don't known something is not a sing of weakness, it is a proof that we can grow and learn further. We must shift the perspective of how we see things. As the paradox shows us: Arrogance is the certainty of those who know little, while humility is the doubt of those who know much. Perhaps being intelligent is not about having all the answers, but about knowing how to ask better questions.
